From Virginia Rush to D.C. United: 15-Year-Old Oscar Avilez Signs Homegrown Contract

Rush Soccer is proud to celebrate Oscar Avilez, a standout talent from Virginia Rush Soccer Club, who has officially signed as a Homegrown Player with D.C. United of Major League Soccer (MLS). At only 15 years old, Oscar becomes the 22nd Homegrown signing in club history, showing how the Rush pathway, from local development to the professional level, continues to shape the future of the game.
Oscar joined D.C. United’s Academy in November 2024 after progressing through the Virginia Rush system, where his technical quality, focus, and leadership quickly set him apart. Within less than a year, he featured for D.C. United’s U-15, U-16, and U-18 squads, totaling 39 appearances, 12 goals, and six assists, including a hat trick at the MLS NEXT Flex Tournament against the Houston Dynamo.

“Oscar’s journey is a reflection of the investment and structure we’ve built across our Academy,” said Dr. Erkut Sogut, D.C. United Managing Director of Soccer Operations. “The proximity of our Academy to the first team, paired with our residential program, has allowed him to grow in a professional and supportive environment.”
Kevin Flanagan, D.C. United’s Director of Academy and Player Development, added:
“Oscar’s talent created this opportunity, but his work ethic and discipline made it happen. We also thank Virginia Rush Soccer Club for their role in his early development and for being a strong partner in identifying and preparing local talent.”
A proud product of Virginia Rush, Oscar has also earned a call-up to the U.S. Under-16 Youth National Team, highlighting his growing national profile and continued commitment to his craft.
Matt Mittelstaedt, Sporting Director at Virginia Rush Soccer Club, shared:
“This is a tremendous milestone for Oscar and a proud moment for everyone at Virginia Rush. His time with our club helped shape his foundation, and we are thrilled to see his hard work and commitment rewarded. Signing a professional contract at 15 reflects not only his talent but also his maturity, focus, and drive.”

This signing highlights how Rush Soccer’s developmental structure, built on local clubs like Virginia Rush, continues to create opportunities for players to reach the highest level of the game.
Congratulations, Oscar! Your Rush family is proud of you and excited to watch your continued journey.
