Hello and welcome to the Rush Select Events page, providing answers to commonly asked questions about the biggest Rush Select event of the year. You can find general informatin on the biggest Select events of the year, like Desert Classic and SC Del Sol President's Day Tournament. 

My son/daughter was accepted, now what?

Congratulations! Now it is time to make sure you're registered and paid up. Nik Penn, the Select director, will issue a TEEF (Team Estimated Expense Form) and send out a direct registration link for you to register your child.

Once registered and paid, feel free to start looking for flights!

Is it okay for my child to travel alone?  

This is up to you, as the legal guardian. Some airlines do not allow minors to fly alone, some do with a fee - all have different regulations for unaccompanied minors, so please be sure to check with your airline.

If you are sending your child alone, a chaperone or coach will be made available to pick up  / drop off in Phoenix. Please stay in open communication with your team to ensure your child is taken care of.

Where does the PDT take place? 

The President's day tournament takes place at various locations in the Phoenix / Scottsdale areas of Arizona. 

Where will Rush Select teams be staying?

Rush Travel is taking care of all Rush Select hotel accommodations, so no need to worry. Due to the large hotel block we deal with for players, coaches and chaperones, we ask that guests & family members book their own accommodations.

This year, we will be staying at the Crowne Plaza Phoenix North. The rate with tax is $155 a night and that includes breakfast. 

Can Rush Travel book hotel rooms for parents?

Due to the extremely large hotel block we have on hold for players, coaches and chaperones, we ask that guests & family members book their own accommodations.

Does Rush Travel have a special hotel rate that our parents can use?

We unfortunately don't have any special rate, we are required to use SC Del Sol's contracted hotels and the rates they agreed upon.

When should we arrive?

Please arrive the first Thursday before the tournament starts. Your coach will have final say, but we request you arrive before 2 pm. 

Which airport do I fly into?

Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport is the best hub. 

Terminal 2 – Alaska, Great Lakes and United

Terminal 3 – American, Delta, Frontier, Hawaian, Jet blue, Spirit, Sun Country

Terminal 4 – Air Canada, BA, South West, US Airways, West jet

When should I book my return flight?

The finals can be as late as 2 pm on Monday. It is recommended you do not book your flight before 5 pm.

What uniforms do players wear?

Players, please bring your newest adidas uniforms from your home club with the Chevy loo. Your coach will contact you regarding jersey numbers. Please also bring your Rush training uniforms. 

What other Rush Select teams will be there?

There will be a Select team in attendance from the boys and girls side of the U13-U17 age groups. Each team will have 2 coaches and everyone will be staying at the same hotel. There will be PLENTY of Rush blue at this event, so be sure to say HI to your Rush family throughout the weekend!

I am a team manager: what are my duties?

Rush suggests that a Select chaperone is in charge of the following, including but not limited to:

  • Collection of paperwork prior to tournament
  • Keeping parent / player contact information up to date
  • Coordinate arrival and departures for players
  • Coordinate chaperones and their duties
  • Help the coach as needed

I am a chaperone: what are my duties?

Rush suggests that a Select team manager is in charge of the following, including but not limited to:

  • Hands-on at the event 
  • Ensuring players are doing laundry, in bed by curfew and in attendance of team meetings
  • Coordinate dinner bookings
  • Coordinate airport pick ups / drop offs
  • Help with transportation to all functions (games, practices, meetings, meals, etc.)

What is the deal with food on the trip? 

Breakfast – Breakfast will be served in the hotel and is part of the Hotel fee on the Team Estimated Expense Form.

Lunch/Dinner – Friday Lunch is provided at the Casa Grande Facility where the boys will be training.  All other days the team will be responsible for their own dining needs.  Due to the schedules of the teams it is impossible for all teams to dine together.  Players are expected to bring their own money and it will be left to the team discretion how they handle the food finances.  Some teams collect money from the players that is held by the chaperones, and the older teams have the player be responsible for their own money.

The coaches will receive a stipend to cover their lunch and dinner costs.

Am I, a coach / chaperone, responsible for gas costs? 

Gas money – Each team will be given a $150 pre-paid credit card to use for their team vans.

Do we need to worry about van or car rentals?

Rush Travel is handling all van rentals for Rush Select teams. You may put in a request for a personal vehicle if you would like to take advantage of our discounts; otherwise, no need to worry about van rentals.
