Virginia Rush U19 Boys Win State Cup
The Virginia Rush 91 team won the U19 Virginia State Cup Championship 2-1 against a very good McLean 91 Premier team over the weekend. The match was hard fought by both teams with Rush having a slight possession advantage in the first half. Late in the first half, Paul Dillon scored for Rush with an excellent free kick to the back post. The second half was a different story. McLean came out strong right away and put the Rush defense under constant pressure until a questionable penalty was awarded for McLean. The kick was well taken so McLean equalized early in the second half. The next thirty minutes became a physical battle for supremacy and many fouls were called. Several yellow cards were issued and both teams had chances. With about ten minutes left in the match, Mason Page broke through a defender, flicked the ball over the onrushing goalkeeper from about 15 yards out and watched the slow roller cross the goal line for the match winner. Virginia Rush 91 is: Michael McCabe, Trevor Nichols, Travis Brent, Will Cason, Ryan Oakes, Trey Saunders, Dylan Bowman, Russell Bootwright, Devon Dubay, Chris Luce, Clay Newton, Nate Shiffman, Alex Vaughan, Mason Page, Richard Diaz and Paul Dillon. They are coached by Jay Hoffman and Steve Newton. The team heads to Lancaster, PA for the USYSA Region 1 Championships on July 1, 2011.
