07.25.14 - New York Rush National ChampionshipsThe New York Rush Patriots 98’ Girls team were recently crowned the 2014 US Club Soccer National Champions at the National Cup being held in Greensboro, North Carolina July 18-21.

The girls were competing in the U17 age group even though they were a U16 team, and won the National Championship with a 2-0 win over WFC Rangers (WA) in the final that gave New York Rush its second National Championship in two years.  “The girls deserved this, they fought for it, and they did it together as a team” said Steve Davis, NY Rush Technical Director. The team motto is “Whatever it takes”, and entering this event they wanted to make sure that they left everything on the field and left with no regrets. They did exactly that, and left Greensboro with a National Championship to add to their CASL and Jefferson Cup Championships this year. The girls only conceded a single goal in the competition and scored 7. A great defensive effort by all the girls involved, combined with a solid attacking mentality that saw the girls maintain much of the possession throughout all their games was a delight for the parents and coaches to watch.

The New York Rush Patriots 97’ Girls were competing in Greensboro the weekend before at the National Premier Leagues (NPL) National Championships. This group was looking to repeat as NPL National Champions after capturing the U16 Title the year before.  Knowing how difficult it would be just to make the National Championships again, the girls worked hard all year and won their respective NPL division with a 10-0-1 record outscoring their opponents 36-5. Finishing first in their group with two wins and a tie meant the girls would be playing for another National Championship, and their opponent would be PDA in the final. A Championship game that unfortunately saw the Rush girls miss chance after chance, finally came down to a penalty kick being awarded to PDA with just 7 minutes left in the game. The PK was converted and NY Rush couldn’t find a way to get the ball in the net and finished their 2013-2014 season as the NPL National Finalists to add to their WAGS, PDA, and NY Cup Championships.

Another NY Rush team was also competing in Greensboro at the US Club Soccer National Championships. The newly announced New York Rush Rowdies (Formerly North Rockland Rowdies) coached by Neil Blutig, were competing in the Girls U14 age group. The team was playing its last event as North Rockland, and finishing as the 2014 National Finalists was a great achievement for both the girls and coaching staff. Add this accomplishment to their 2013 NPL National Semifinal showing, 2013-2014 WAGS and STA Championships, and finalists at Annandale and NEWSS, this is one solid team that will be wearing the Blue and Grey of Rush next year.
