Weber Assist Lifts Penn State to Title Game
Michigan Rush alum Mallory Weber and Penn State have advanced to the Women's College Cup Championship after a 2-1 overtime win Friday night over Florida State.
Weber played a key part in the games first goal as she broke loose on the left side of the field attacking the goal. She dribbled into the box and took a decent angled shot on goal. The Florida State goal keeper made a great first save, but the ball deflected off her hands and Penn States Maya Hayes tapped in the rebound to give the Lions a 1-0 advantage. Weber was credited with an assist on the goal, her 3rd of the year.
Florida State would equal the game in the 90th minute to force overtime but Penn State would not be beaten on the night as Christine Narin scored her team leading 16th goal of the year less than a minute into overtime and Penn State would hold on for the win. They will meet North Carolina in the final on Sunday afternoon. Sunday will mark the first trip to the Championship game for Penn State while North Carolina will be looking for their 21st Women's soccer title.
Good luck Mallory!
