2012 07.05 - The TOPSoccer program started in 1993 with the first team being called the "Turtle Kickers."   The program was one of 4 four in the Denver Metro area.  Three other clubs formed an alliance where we would host one home and away series of visits.  The host club would put on a small tournament and then usually a barbecue.  It was a three hour event of soccer, drinking and eating.  Today the turtle kickers became the "Thunder" and grew to now 68, 38 in Denver and another 30 or so in our south branch in Colorado Springs.

John Laboon one of the seasoned veterans has been with the Rush for over 25 years serving in just about every capacity, from Head Coach of our Competitive teams, BOD member, Team Manager, Tournament Director and now the main contact for our TOPSoccer Thunder team.   "I love it."  Says John Laboon..  "I have been with the Rush for a long time and believe in everything they do."

Presently, there are 6 experienced coaches who run the Thunder Program and alternate the lead (head coach) duties on an annual basis. All the coaches have either previously coached Rush youth teams or have played on Rush youth teams. The continued support of the Thunder Program by the Rush has been outstanding and so important to the continued success of the Thunder Program. The Thunder coaching staff includes: Kelly MacCary (Head Coach); Kevin MacCary; Bill Sharrer, Danny and Kelley Elsner, and John LaBoon.

Tim Schulz, President & C.E.O. adds, "These kids are superstars.  I want to thank the teams who help out the Thunder and all teh volunteers.  Rush Soccer Thanks you and all the participants that make it all happen!"
