Angeli Joins Washington Spirit

04.09.14 - Angeli to Spirit

Colorado Rush Alum Jordan Angeli has been named to the roster of the Washington Spirit for the upcoming 2014 NWSL season. Angeli had a standout season for the Boston Breakers of the WPS in 2010 scoring 7 goals and helping the team to a second place finish. In the first game of the 2011 season, an ACL tear ended her season after just 29 minutes of play. In 2013, Angeli (back row, second from right) was selected by the Washington Spirit in the supplemental draft for the newly formed NWSL and now finally healthy, Jordan will join the Spirit when the season opens on Sunday, April 13th against Western New York Flash.

"I am truly honored and thankful that I can now call myself a member of the Washington Spirit. After my last injury, I was unsure if I would ever be back on the field again. The one thing that stayed strong through my whole journey was my desire and passion for playing the beautiful game. I feel as if I am blessed with another opportunity to do what I love and for that I am so grateful," exclaimed Angeli upon making the team. "Thank you for everyone in the Rush (staff, players, and parents alike) who believed in me and continue to support me as I further my career as a professional. I would never be back here on the field if it weren't for the amazing support you all provided me over the past few years. As I play this season, I hope I can represent the Rush Way in the NWSL."

“Jordan signing with Washington and continuing her professional career is a great story. Few people know how much she has done, how much pain she has had to endure and how many setbacks she has had to face, just to get back to where she is now. But I am not surprised," said Colorado Rush Technical Director Erik Bushey. "When she told me she 04.09.14 - Angeli to Spirit 2was going to commit to training and that she would play again that was all I needed to hear. That’s just Jordan. I expected this day.”

A quick side note from Jordan...

As the biggest club in the nation, I hope we can do a good job of supporting the NWSL. This is the future for all the young stars we are building in the Rush. If you can get to a game, buy a jersey, stream the games online, watch on TV, buy a game/season tickets (and if you don't live near a NWSL team, donate them to someone you know who is in the area), it would be mean a lot. I want every girl sitting at home reading this to be able to grow up and fulfill her dream of being a professional soccer player. I will continue to do my part by helping produce a good product on the field and continue to fight for this league to be around for many years to come.
