02.15.14 - PDT DAY 1Day 1 of the 2014 PDT in Phoenix is in the books and it was a banner day for Rush Select. 12 wins, 2 ties and only 4 losses for the day makes this year the best first day Select has ever had at the PDT.

Leading the way on day 1 were the U14B who got a late goal from Demetrius Kigeya (WI) to beat Albion after beating home town team Sereno 3-0 to open the day. A tie on Sunday puts the 14's into the semi-finals.

The U16 girls started the day down 1-0 to a fellow Rush club (New Mexico) before pulling even and winning late on a Bree Bezdek (CO) goal. Game two was a battle till the last moment but the 16s finished as 2-1 winners and have made it to the semis.

The U16 boys continue their streak of unbeaten games at PDT with 1-0 and 2-1 wins today. The team has never lost a game at the PDT, a streak dating back to their first game at the event as U13 players.

The U15 boys are also in the semi finals after beating St. Louis Scott Gallagher and SC Del Sol on day 1.

The final 2-0 team after day one was also the team featured in the Rush Game of the Day. After with standing the heat of Heat FC (NV) the girls took on Bethesda from Maryland, ranked as one of the top 5 teams in the country. With hundreds of players and parents watching and cheering from the sideline, the Rush took the early lead off of a Mari Annest (CO) goal only to have Bethesda answer back moments later. Perhaps the changing moment in the game came in the second half when Bethesda was awarded a penalty kick. Rush keeper Cameron McKinnell (CO) stepped up and stuffed the PK to keep the score even at 1. The game was decided with under 2 minutes to play when Sarah Piper (TX) smashed a shot from well outside the box that skipped in past the Bethesda keeper and sent the crown into chaos! Check out the goal here.
