Select adidas International
Rush Select boys continue to grow in the adidas International Select Program
With just a couple of days left of the trip both Zach (OR) and Sergio (NM) are making great strides within the program and reveling in the experience. The training with the Real Madrid staff has been great, and all the things included in the trip have been just as impressive. Wednesday night the guys attended the Spanish Super Cup final where at the Vincente Calderon Stadium, the home team Atletico Madrid tied 1-1 with Barcelona, with the guys seeing Neymar, Barcelona’s latest South American star score his debut goal for the club.
After the guys took the tour of the Santiago Bernabue stadium of Real Madrid the following morning and some more training sessions with the Real staff it was their turn to play a meaningful game. The squad was split in half to face Rayo Vallecano of the Spanish La Liga academy league. The first group played the Rayo ’97 boys and although losing 3-2, Sergio was provider for the first goal with a great low cross that the center forward could not fail to score, and Zach coming on as a second half substitute score a great solo effort to get the game back to 3-2.
The second half of the group played Rayo ‘96B and with Sergio having played the full 80 minutes was rested, but Zach came at CB and played the majority of the game. With 6 US national team players on the field the level was very high, but unfortunately the La Liga outfit came out 2-1 winners.
The final part of the trip will see the guys take a visit to the historic Madrid city center and finish on Saturday with a match against the Real Madrid 97 and 98 Academy teams.
