Merida Boys Succeed in First International Tourney
For the first time since its inception, Merida Rush Soccer Club participated in an International Tournament, the Denver Cup in Colorado August 1-4.
A team of U12 Boys attended the 220 team tournament and finished in 3rd of the Gold bracket including a 3-2 win over the host Colorado Rush boys. Below, Technical Director Giancarlo Salazar reflects on the clubs growth in the past year.
"The Club has been a major achievement in such a short time and we are now competing against big teams and against so many talented players. No doubt it has been a very enriching experience in every way. Our players have realized what is our reality; that competing locally in Mexico is not the same as competing internationally against very competitive players. At the same time we were able to corroborate in the development and growth of soccer in the U.S. which makes us glad to be involved in youth soccer and to continue working and contributing a bit to build a football culture. As Director of the Club, I am very happy to be here and to be able to see thousands of children and youth playing football in an impressive organization that certainly deserves recognition. We look forward to attending this great event every year!"
