The notable absentee: Hope Solo, who has damage to ligaments in her right wrist and may need surgery.

The USA will depart for the Algarve region in Portugal on Feb. 25. Horan and fellow France-based players Tobin Heath (PSG) and Megan Rapinoe (Lyon) will join the U.S. team on March 3 after their clubs -- the two top teams in France -- clash in league play in Lyons on March 2.

Other foreign-based players are Christen Press, who scored three goals in the two friendlies against Scotland, Yael Averbuch andWhitney Engen.

The U.S. squad includes one collegian: North Carolina defenderCrystal Dunn, a member of the USA's 2012 Under-20 Women's World Cup championship team.

Besides Solo, the only 2012 gold-medalist who was with the team for the Scotland series but will not go to Portugal is Heather Mitts.

-- March 11: Sweden (10 a.m. ET) in Lagos
