After an early morning opening ceremony (at right with presenter Brian Lux of Pikes Peak) welcoming the U14 participants (after heavy rains cancelled the event last night) teams hit the field for morning games.
Sweltering humidity accompanied the first day of games but teams were flying with energy.
On the boys side, the U13 Select boys started off slow but exploded for three goals in five minutes early in the second half to beat Georgia Rush. Iowa and Washington played a very competitive match with Iowa scoring last for the 2-1 victory. Lastly, the host Virginia boys were unfriendly hosts to the Colorado boys winning 5-1.
On the girls side, the Alaska Rush struggled with the humidity and the Virginia girls as the hosts won 5-0. The Rush Select girls got all they could handle out of a stingy team from Washington Rush. After going up 2-0, Washington scored off a set piece and had several other quality chances to equalize but the game ultimately finished 2-1 to Select.
Monday, teams are on the fields for games in the morning, classroom/position specific training in the afternoon and hit the beach for sand soccer in the evening.
