Kansas Rush at Region II Championships
The U16 Kansas Rush boys are the first ever team from Kansas Rush to win a State Cup and represent their state at the Regional Championships. This year's event, hosted in Saginaw, Michigan, saw Kansas Rush take on Lou Fusz Geerling (MO), Carmel Unite (IN) and Everton (WI).
The opening game of the tournament matched Rush with Lou Fusz Geerling, the Midwest Regional League qualifier out of Missouri. The inexperience of Kansas Rush in regional championships was evident as Geerling won the first match 5-0.
But the Rush boys bounced back by knocking off Carmel United of Indiana 1-0 and then put themselves in contention for the knockout round by beating Everton (WI) 2-1.
Unfortunately, Region II takes only the group winner and goes straight to Semi-final games instead of Quarterfinals like some of the other regions. Because of this, Kansas Rush, despite having a 2-1 record (along with Lou Fusz Geerling and Carmel United) will not advance due to goal differential.
Congratulations Kansas Rush on your first State Cup title and a successful first trip to regionals!
