Nike 94B represented the U17 boys’ age group for Arkansas at the R3 President’s Cup tournament June 9-12 in Decatur, Alabama. Rush was playing against the other state champions of the region. The boys faced the President’s Cup champions from Louisiana, Alabama, Florida, Tennessee and North Carolina on their way to capturing the championship. Nike 94B played CASL from North Carolina in the final and came out on top 1-0.
“The goal in the final represented everything these boys accomplished over the weekend; teamwork and work rate,” said Matt Mittelstaedt, head coach for the Nike 94B. The goal came 30 seconds into injury time of the first half with the boys applying pressure in the attacking third and causing a turnover. The team then worked together stringing 5 passes together covering the width of the field. Mat Brockway finished a brilliant cross from Kyle Hendren to give the team the only goal they would need.
The Nike 94B team has reflected the Rush Way philosophy the entire year with their commitment and dedication. The U17 team is comprised of 18 players from 8 different cities across the state.
The team now trains for the National President’s Cup tournament. The event is being held in Des Moines, Iowa over July 7-10. The team will face the other Regional Championships for a chance to play for the National Championship.
