Below is a message from Colorado Rush Alum (and current member of the Boston Breakers of the WPS) Jordan Angeli. The WPS is in trouble and needs the help of passionate soccer fans across the country. Please see Jordan's message and offer your support.
"As some of you know, I have been fortunate enough to play in the WPS (Women's Professional Soccer) league for the past two years. Just like many of the girls who play for the Rush here (Colorado) and all over the country, my dream was always to be a professional soccer player. With the WPS, I got to accomplish one of my biggest goals and dreams in life. I am writing you all because the state of the WPS is in jeopardy.
This is just a quick low down of what is going on:
Right now, we have 5 teams in our league and US Soccer will not sanctify our league as a Division 1 Professional league without 8 teams. The WPS is asking US Soccer for another year waiver for the 2012 season to operate as a D1 league with only 5 teams. US Soccer has given the WPS 15 days as of last Sunday (so only about 6 days now) to find a 6th team to join the league.
Here is an article from the New York Times about the state of the WPS:
Overall, just wanted to let you guys know what is going on. After working with your daughters this season, I see so much potential for them to continue to grow into amazing soccer players. And if it is their dream to play pro soccer, I want them to be able to have that as an option. If you feel so inclined, here is a link to an online petition to US Soccer to sanction the WPS for next season:
I am so thankful for the Rush club and all they have done for me over the years. Please help me spread the word about the WPS because we need to keep all these girls dreams alive!
