Colorado 12s Win Historic State Cup
This past weekend The Colorado Rush U12 Nike Girls became State Cup Champions, marking the 100th State Cup title for the club since officially becoming Colorado Rush! The team scored 23 goals and conceded only 6 throughout the tournament. Before the Final game a group of players provided a pregame speech, “Who am I? I AM A CHAMPION.” This was the focus of the speech and the girls lived up to it in their style of play.
The girls met Real National in the final game and Cori Dyke found the net with a left footed volley early in the game. Rush played with confidence and high energy, soon they earned a corner kick and Erin Hohnstein headed the ball with perfect placement for goal number two. Real got the ball behind our defense and were able to score late in the first half.
The girls went into the second half with a 2-1 lead and were determined to continue the excitement, the Rush style passing and fun on the field. Carlee Giammona took the ball out of the air with her chest and had a beautiful volley in the net for a 3-1 lead. A penalty was called on our relentless defense and Real was given a penalty kick to bring the score close again. The energy was high and the girls were confident they would score again. Audrey Weiss shot from 25 yards out and brought the score to 4-2 which remained the final score of the game.
A job well done by all! The excitement as the final whistle blew was felt across the field as Rush fans erupted in cheer, the team met in the middle for a celebratory embrace and Rush players from older and younger teams joined in the excitement. The girls glowed and their smiles grew as reality set in they were headed to Hawaii. The Team congratulated Bella Scaturro as MVP of the game for her impact in defense, runs up the field and overall high level of play. Decorated with metals and Hawaiian Lei’s the girls celebrated, honored their coaches Erik Bushey and Jordan Angelli, and enjoyed holding their huge trophy high above their heads.
We wish the girls great luck in Hawaii and know they will represent Colorado Rush as Champions!
