02.27.12 - danielle to russiaCongratulations to our very own Danielle Foxhoven who has recently signed with FC Energy Voronezh.  The team is located in Voronezh, Russia.  The team started out in the USSR Women's Championship League but since the fall they have competed in Russia's Premier League.  They have the most championships in the Russian league, winning five championships.  They are three time quarter finalists in the UEFA Champions League.  Danielle has signed a four month contract with the FC Energy.

Rush W-League General Manager Dominique Hoecherl had a chance to sit down with Danielle and asked a few questions about her great news, here are her responses:

How did you feel after you were drafted to a WPS team?

After the WPS draft I was so excited! It was such an honor to be one of the 23 players picked.  It was incredible to see my name pop up and I was just really excited to have the opportunity to keep playing.  Having said that, I also knew that it meant I was going to have to put in more work than ever to make the team still.

What was your reaction to the suspended WPS season?

When the league suspended operations it was a really sad day for a lot of people, especially for fans, and players.  A lot of players were counting on a season because they were already contracted to their teams.  Unfortunately, a lot of women hung up their boots after this.  That made me really sad to see so many amazing athletes stop playing.  I was also saddened to not be a part of the league, and it threw so many questions back into the mix.

How did the Russia opportunity come about?

The Russian opportunity came about through an agent that I have hired.  The Rush helped me get in touch with him and he has really done an awesome job of representing me and his other athletes.

What are your expectations?

My expectations I place all on myself.  I don’t know what to expect from Russia, the team or the girls so I am not going to speculate.  The only thing I can expect is for myself is to work hard to earn a starting position and become a major part of the team.

What are your concerns?

I definitely have concerns with the language. It will be hard to communicate with the players and coach but I am excited to try.

What are you looking forward to?

I am looking forward to playing and to traveling.  This is such an amazing opportunity to live in a new part of the world.  No matter what happens I get the opportunity to do what I love in a completely new part of the world.

On behalf of the Colorado Rush and W-League Team, we wish you luck Danielle!
