Today the B14 Select had a 10:00 am KO, vs. MSC United, touted to be maybe the toughest competition of the weekend to this point. Even with Mike Swift out with a foot injury (after his 4 goals the previous day), the team felt confident going into the game. Unfortunately the game did not go quiet as planned and with an indifferent start to the game, it was apparent from the off-set that maybe a little fatigue and a little complacency meant that the soccer was not close the free flowing display of the previous 2 games. MSC work hard and were athletic and a little lack of concentration meant the game became scrappy from the beginning.
Ten minutes into the game Greco and Hayden, went up for the same ball in the box under high pressure from the MSC Striker, causing a collision between the two Select playesr, resulting in a goal for MSC and Hayden having to be replaced with blood coming from his mouth and nose (he would play no further part in the game). The response was good with a goal from Halverson who calmly slotted in from 5 yards after some good work down the right wing. Emerson gave Select the lead after 20 minutes, only to see Jerome put through his own net to make it 2-2 at half time.
Select played better in the 2nd half and Emerson did well to earn a penalty, which Riggs calmly put away for his 3rd of the tournament. Although, nowhere near the level of the previous day, the guys created a number of chances that they failed to convert, and a well-timed save from Moldenhauer in goal ensure the 3-2 victory to seal a place in the semi-finals.
After lunch the guys earned a well-deserved rest with some downtime, before a leadership meeting and afternoon activities.
