Guten Tag from Germany!

08.26.14 - 15G Select in Germany 3The GU15 Rush National Team (RNT) arrived in Frankfurt, Germany on Saturday, August 23.  The team of 16 along with more than 50,000 fans attended the Eintracht Frankfurt vs. SC Freiburg game that afternoon. This was the home opener for the Eintracht Frankfurt team and they came away with a 1-0 victory.

On Sunday, the RNT team trained in the morning and afternoon with two coaches of the FFC Frankfurt Academy.

Following the training sessions, the team took in the impressive skyline of Frankfurt mirrored in the Main River. They continued their sightseeing tour by visiting the Main Tower, a 56-story skyscraper that overlooks one of the world’s most liveable cities.

The team visited Frankfurt AM Main, the downtown area and was ironically welcomed by resident soccer enthusiasts who encouraged the girls to some street soccer. The final destination of the evening was visiting one of the many grand cathedrals of the city.

“Europe has so much history and culture---including the buildings that were built in the 13th century to the way of life. For our girls to be immersed in this 10 day international exchange, it’s something they will never forget.” –Russell Finch, GU15 (RNT) Head Coach

After three successful training sessions with the FCC Frankfurt Academy coaching staff, the RNT faced off in their first competitive match against Eintracht Frankfurt U17. The score ended RUSH 2-3 Eintracht Frankfurt.

Following the Eintracht game, the Eintracht families hosted a pasta dinner providing the American team and supporters an opportunity to share soccer stories.

Today was the RNT’s final day in Frankfurt.  The girls spent the morning watching women’s Bundesliga team FFC Frankfurt train.  The team included many German international players and the 2011 World Cup winners, Kozue Ando and Asuna Tanaka from Japan. The RNT was ready for their second match against the FFC Frankfurt U17 team. After being up 1-0 at half time, the score ended 1-2.

“Our girls were fantastic tonight.  It was a tough loss because of the amount of possession and chances we created.  It was yet another organized and disciplined German side, but this time we were more successful penetrating the lines and creating good goal scoring opportunities.” – Russell Finch, GU15 RNT Head Coach
