Rush Select Finish in 6th in Italy

04.25.14 - RUSH SELECT BU13 Italy1Rush Select BU13 – The final day for the Rush Select BU13 teams at the Margine Coperta proved to be a great day indeed. The day started with the Virginia team facing off against Fiorentina for the 11th/12th place match in the main stadium.  In a back and forth match, Virginia won the game 1-0 over the Serie A club!  James Raynor (VA) scored the game winning goal and Nolan Brynes (CO) got the clean sheet in goal.

In the second match of the day, the Colorado team took on Empoli for the 5th/6th place match.  After giving up an early goal to Empoli, the team fought back to tie it up 1-1 with a goal from Kenji Nystrom (WA) before halftime.  The game stayed deadlocked with both teams going back and forth until Empoli broke the tie last to win the game.

04.25.14 - S YOSHIDA AWARD

After watching the Final match between Genoa and Juventus, the awards ceremonies began.  The Rush teams took home two trophies with Colorado finishing 6th
 and Virginia finishing 11th in the tournament.  Both finishes were the highest any American team has ever finished! The tournament also gave out individual player awards and Rush Select made history again!  Sean Yoshida (At right) from Hawaii Rush was named the Best International Player of the Tournament!

“I am so proud of these boys on and off the field.  Not only did they make history at the tournament; they did it with style and professionalism.  They represented Rush Soccer with the highest standard,” said Matt Mittelstaedt, head coach for the BU13 age group.  By the end of the tour, Rush Select won four team trophies and one individual player trophy.  Congrats to all the players and staff for a history making event!
