On October 17 the film The Best of Me premiered nationwide. The movie stars James Marsden (30 Rock and the most recent X-Men movie Days of Future Past) who replaced the late Paul Walker as Dawson, the male lead. It also features Michelle Monaghan from numerous big name projects including the critically acclaimed HBO show True Detective with Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. So what does this Hollywood title and A-list actors have to do with the Rush Soccer Club? The connection is the director of this film as well as our very own director of the Rush Board, Michael Hoffman.
Hoffman’s accolades and worthy mentionables go on and on from adaptations of Shakespeare to writing and directing films that have won awards and include Academy Award winners. Fortunately the Rush has had the honor of having him serve on the board since 2010. His unique line of work and success in said occupation is a real benefit and contribution for the Rush and the future vision for it.
He currently resides in Boise, Idaho where he has started multiple foundations assisting and empowering refugees. One of the more notable organizations is the One World Soccer Camp that was founded by his son Atticus Hoffman. The camp has been running a staggering 7 years providing scholarships, gear, training and an overall good time. The camp is in conjunction with the Idaho Rush and one we have all come to be exceptionally proud of.
