A handful of Iowa Rush U12 Girls raised over $2,000 for Courage League Sports, which is a recreational adaptive sports facility specifically designed for children not able to go “full speed” due to disability, illness, or emotional challenges. Their programs provide an opportunity to play in sports leagues, participate in group classes or play around during open gym nights at everyone’s own skill level. The fundraising efforts made by the girls for CLS earned them the opportunity to attend a luncheon in November with the ultimate experience of meeting and being inspired by the one and only, Abby Wambach, all-time leading goal scorer for the USA Women's National Team! The players had this to say about their experience:
Ella Becker: It was really amazing when Abby signed my jersey and then told me to turn around so she could also sign the one I was wearing.... so cool! The one thing that Abby said that really stuck with me was, "No matter what happens, don't give up on your dream!"
Rachael Christmann: The thing that I remember is that Abby was very nice and shared advice that applied to everyone. She encouraged us to keep playing soccer because it pays off in the future.
Macy Epp: Meeting Abby Wambach was an experience of a lifetime and something I will never forget! Raising money for Courage League Sports so people with disabilities can do activities with new equipment is amazing and knowing I was a part of that is awesome. I had so much fun playing the sport I love with Abby!
Elizabeth Overberg: I would say the thing that stuck with me the most would be when she said “don’t let anyone tell you that you are not good enough.” Another thing I enjoyed was the part when we asked her questions and she responded with very great advice and facts.
Meghan White: Abby is a very caring, down-to-earth person. It was fun getting her autograph and getting a picture with her. It was so fun playing soccer with her, to see how quickly she passes and plays.
Iowa Rush is extremely proud of the individual efforts made by these players to raise funds for an organization that is so important to community and sports. Congratulations to these players on a great effort and an unforgettable experience.
