On the final day of competition of the NWSL season, Forward Lindsey Horan (CO Rush) scored what would be the game winner as Portland Thorns topped Sky Blue FC 3-1. The result was enough to propel Portland into the top record for the season which earned them the NWSL Shield for the best regular season record.
The Thorns, who are loaded with players from the USWNT inlcuding Horan, will take on Western New York Flash in one NWSL Semi-final on Sunday, Oct. 2 (Washington Spirit host Chicago Red Stars in other semi). Since the formation of the league, no current NWSL Shield holder has gone on to win the NWSL title. Horan finished the season with 5 goals scored in her 15 caps playing Midfield and Forward.
